Disclaimer: Ore Assembly is not a functioning business, and this project was simply an exercise in creating a visual identity for a retail brand.


Ore Assembly was born out of the idea that beautiful, timeless design could be simple enough for everyday wear and ornate enough for a special occasion. Rather than a wearer having an extensive collection (which can become expensive and large over time), there could be a solution that works with a minimalist approach.


The brand name echos the mission; “Ore” represents the fundamental elements that make up the physical metals that the jewellery is crafted from, and “Assembly” describes the construction and design of these elements. Together, “Ore Assembly” signifies the creation of their collections from natural elements to final form.


This project outlines a branding exercise that marries this brand idea with visual elements.

The task

As discovered through analysis of competitors in the same space, the words "natural, soft and calm" came up as descriptors for this direction. I wanted to avoid the brand from becoming overly feminine, as Ore Assembly is focussed more on jewellery basics that can be worn by anyone. This visual direction also needed to draw from nature’s elements, which ties into the brand name “Ore”. This became reflected in typographic choices and colour.

Muted, earthy tones are identified as ideal in product photography. I wanted to create a nature-inspired base to compliment all brand elements. Copper and stone represent the earth, green represents flora and blue represents the ocean and the sky. All these natural elements need each other for balance and harmony, which is reflected in the visual style.

The result

I developed a style guide combining all elements outlined above, including a primary and secondary logo, typography pairings, colour palettes, and photography styling. This is a brand identity that would be ready to be applied to any brand and marketing collateral, with an excellent base for social media use as well. With the addition of the brand pattern and background textures, there are many layers that can be used to present the brand across different stages of the customer journey.
